Winter climbing in Scotland has a long and proud history of adventure. This course is designed to give you a solid foundation in the essential skills to be safe while accepting the challenge and uncertainty of climbing in this environment.
Location
Winter climbing takes place in every corner of the Scottish hills. We suggest basing this course around Fort William & Glencoe on the West Coast. This gives us access to Ben Nevis, Aonach Mor and Glencoe which plenty of world class and reliable winter climbs. We also run courses in the Cairngorms from Aviemore which offers a number of more accessible climbs and in Torridon. Routes climbed may include Ledge Route, II, Ben Nevis // Tower Ridge, IV, 3, Ben Nevis // Glovers Chimney, III, 4, Ben Nevis // Green Gully, IV 4, Ben Nevis // Dorsal Arete, II, Glencoe // SC Gully, III 3, Glencoe // Aonach Eagach, III, Glencoe // Curved Ridge, II, Buachaille Etive Mor // Point 5 Gully, V 5, Ben Nevis
Previous experience
This course is designed for those with a good grasp of using crampons & ice axe who wish to climb on grade II-V terrain. Some rock climbing experience is also useful. Winter climbing is a physically demanding activity and you should ensure you are reasonably hill fit prior to attending this course.

We can happily run this course on any dates from the 1st January through to early April. Courses are usually between two and five days in length.
