"Blease Fell, Cumbria. It was an error of mine! In poor visibility I took the dark line in the snow as stone at the path edge (I knew where I was!). Turns out it was a 1-2" wide crack in the snow, which when I stepped on it broke away immediately and carried me downhill, snapping one walking pole. I was carried approx 50ft, the lateral extent of the slide was only maybe 15ft. Once I'd stopped moving, I could see several blocks below my feet, showing some 12" of what to my, very untrained, eyes looked like 12" thick windslab."
